Chehalem Mountains wines span diverse hills and soils, with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay offering many contrasts.
Red and dark berries, flowers and savoury spice with fresh acidity and varied tannin textures.
Citrus and orchard fruit, from fresh styles to richer, lees- and barrel-shaped wines.
Pear, apple and a dry, gently textured finish.
Chehalem Mountains is a broad nested AVA with volcanic, marine-sedimentary and windblown soils in different areas. Ribbon Ridge and Laurelwood District are more specific AVAs within it. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are useful introductions, with Pinot Gris adding another white choice. Elevation, exposure and the particular vineyard help narrow this varied mountain landscape.
