South Africa

Maanschijn is a boutique winery founded in 2017 in Hermanus, Walker Bay, South Africa, by winemakers and friends Paul Hoogwerf and Douglas Mylrea. Based at Stonefields in a heritage building beneath Maanschynkop, the winery works with Walker Bay vineyards in the region’s cooler climate. The duo follows a low-intervention approach, using natural fermentation and minimal manipulation to create fresh, distinctive wines that express local soils and climate. Its ranges include The Herbarium Collection and Brunch Club, while The Wine Garden offers tastings and picnics from the cellar and surrounding venue. The historic winery building was once a stable and later used to dry indigenous flowers for the local market, adding a distinctive sense of place to this artisanal South African producer.
