Josef Gritsch

Austria

Josef Gritsch is a seventh-generation, family-owned winery in Spitz’s Spitzer Graben, Wachau. Its steep, centuries-old stone terraces, cool winds and cold nights, and mica-schist, gneiss and weathered-granite soils shape distinctive single-vineyard wines. The estate focuses on Grüner Veltliner, Riesling and Gelber Muskateller, produced across the Wachau Steinfeder, Federspiel and Smaragd categories. Josef Gritsch emphasizes traditional knowledge, gentle winemaking and patience, allowing grapes time to reach optimal ripeness while using selective modernization. The wines are noted for elegance, vitality, minerality and clear terroir expression, with individual sites such as Bruck and Schön showing different profiles. The family also operates a Heurigen tavern and hosts wine and culinary events.
