Vini di Filippo

Italy

Vini di Filippo is a family-run estate in Cannara, between Torgiano and Montefalco in Umbria, overlooking Assisi. Roberto Di Filippo and his wife Elena Pompeii own and manage the winery, with Roberto also serving as winemaker. The estate has practiced certified organic agriculture since 1994 and is developing biodynamic methods, with an application for Demeter certification pending. Vineyard work emphasizes low-impact techniques: horses are used to reduce mechanization and soil compaction, while geese and chickens support agroforestry, weed control, and soil fertility. The wines are made without animal proteins, and some are produced without added sulphites. The range focuses on native Umbrian varieties, including Grechetto, Montefalco Sagrantino, and Montefalco Rosso, with a philosophy centered on careful soil management, low yields, manual pruning, and expressing the local terroir.
