La Calcinara

Italy

La Calcinara is a family-owned winery in Contrada Calcinara, Candia, in Marche’s Monte Conero area, run by Paolo and Eleonora Calcinara. Founded in 1997, it combines family history with an artisanal approach focused on expressing the local terroir. Its certified-organic vineyards lie around 200 metres above sea level on calcareous, clay and sandstone soils rich in marine fossils, with Montepulciano, Sangiovese, Verdicchio and other varieties. Farming is low-input and inspired by biodynamic principles, avoiding synthetic products and using minimal sulfur and copper. In the cellar, spontaneous native-yeast fermentations, oxygen contact and restrained sulfur preserve complexity and authenticity. The resulting wines aim to be joyful, sincere and rooted in the Contrada Calcinara landscape. The family also produces organic extra-virgin olive oil from local Raggia and Leccino olives.
