About Valle del Maipo

Where it grows

Around Santiago and the Maipo River basin in central Chile, between the Andes and the Coastal Range.

Maipo is one of the four major subregions of Chile’s Central Valley. Cabernet Sauvignon is an inviting starting point, with gravelly terraces and varied elevations giving different vineyard expressions. Pirque, Puente Alto and Buin identify more specific origins within the valley. Alto Maipo describes the Andean side of the landscape rather than one single estate. Follow those smaller place names to explore the distinction between vineyard origin and a winery’s Santiago address.
