Friuli Colli Orientali is a hillside treasury of Friulano and Ribolla Gialla, with Schioppettino and Pignolo for red-wine discovery.
Friulano.
Pear, apple and almond-like notes with a dry, substantial texture.
Lemon, apple and light floral notes with bright acidity and a clean finish.
Red and dark berries, violet and pepper with lively acidity and a savoury finish.
Dark fruit, spice and earthy depth with firm tannins that can soften through ageing.
The eastern hills bring a varied mosaic of marl-and-sandstone slopes and sheltered vineyard sites. The DOC covers native and international grapes, including dry whites, distinctive reds and some sweet expressions. Schioppettino offers a peppery red route, while Pignolo can be deeply structured. Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit, Ramandolo and Rosazzo have separate DOCG identities; sharing this hillside landscape does not make their wine styles interchangeable.
