Niagara Escarpment offers a distinctive New York origin influenced by Lake Ontario and a limestone ridge.
Citrus and orchard fruit with lively acidity; sweetness varies by producer.
Berry fruit and herbal notes with a fresh, dry tannic finish.
Niagara Escarpment AVA lies on the New York side of the border and is distinct from Ontario’s Canadian appellations. Lake Ontario and the escarpment help shape local growing conditions. Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc offer useful starting points. The shared geographical ridge does not make wines from the two countries one appellation.
