Oltrepò Pavese offers a broad Lombard wine journey, from Barbera and Croatina reds to Riesling whites and other hill-country discoveries.
Cherry, plum and gentle spice with a dry palate and lively acidity.
The Riesling category can draw on Riesling Renano and Riesling Italico, also called Welschriesling; these are different grapes.
Apple, citrus and floral notes with fresh acidity; the stated grape and sweetness help distinguish styles.
Oltrepò Pavese DOC includes several wine types and grape-led expressions. Barbera and Croatina introduce its red traditions, while Riesling offers a contrasting white route. Read Riesling Renano and Riesling Italico carefully: the latter is Welschriesling, a different grape from Riesling. The area also has separate denominations for wines such as Bonarda, Buttafuoco, Sangue di Giuda and traditional-method sparkling DOCG. The full appellation and wine type make this broad landscape easier to explore.
