Scanzo, also called Moscato di Scanzo, is a DOCG for a sweet red passito made from the local black-skinned Moscato di Scanzo grape. Drying the fruit concentrates its aromas before fermentation and ageing. This is a different experience from a white Moscato or a light sparkling Muscat. Expect a small-glass wine with perfume, sweetness and red-wine structure, suited to thoughtful sipping or pairing with suitably rich desserts.
