Mt. Brave

United States

Mt. Brave farms organically on its rugged, high-elevation vineyard on Mt. Veeder, at roughly 1,400–2,000 feet in Napa Valley’s Mayacamas Range. Above the fog line, the site benefits from cool mountain air, morning sun, volcanic and sparse rocky soils, and a long growing season, while steep terrain and limited mechanization make vineyard work labor-intensive. These conditions naturally produce low yields, small berries, and concentrated, complex fruit. Winemaker Chris Carpenter brings nearly three decades of experience and a background in viticulture and enology to wines focused on the distinctive expression of mountain-grown grapes. The property’s history includes vineyard sites dating to just before the Civil War, and Mt. Brave pays tribute to the pioneering spirit associated with Mt. Veeder.
