Cantine Barbera

Italy

Cantine Barbera is a family-owned winery in Menfi on Sicily’s southwestern coast, led by third-generation winemaker Marilena Barbera. At Tenuta Belicello, the family has cultivated vines for generations, with vineyard roots going back to the 1920s. The estate works mainly with indigenous Sicilian varieties grown on varied calcareous, clay, sandy, and alluvial soils close to the sea. Farming is certified organic and biodynamic, with dry farming, no herbicides or chemical fertilizers, and a strong focus on biodiversity. In the cellar, Marilena follows a natural, non-interventionist approach with spontaneous fermentations, indigenous yeasts, minimal additives, and little or no filtration. The winery also emphasizes sustainability through renewable energy, recyclable packaging, and ISO certifications.
