Producer

Avignonesi

Italy

Founded in 1974 and rooted in Montepulciano, Avignonesi is a historic Tuscan producer best known for Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Owned by Virginie Saverys since 2009, the estate has converted to certified organic and biodynamic viticulture, using cover crops and biodynamic preparations while avoiding chemical herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers. Its stated aim is to be a “good ancestor,” protecting soil, water, biodiversity, and the local community. Winemaking emphasizes indigenous grapes, separate lots, and terroir expression, with pied de cuve fermentation and maturation in French oak, cement eggs, stoneware amphorae, and extended lees aging. Renaissance-era traditions continue in its Vin Santo and Occhio di Pernice, made with generations-old madre.
