Founded in 1992 by Martín Alonso Etayo and Gloria Plaza Medina, Viña Ilusión is a small, certified-organic estate in Rioja Baja near Mount Isasa. Its vineyards sit at 600–700 metres on calcareous, limestone-, iron- and clay-rich soils. Farming follows regenerative, biodynamic and permaculture principles influenced by Masanobu Fukuoka, with cover crops and no ploughing; the wider mixed farm also includes olive, almond, quince and fruit trees. Martín and Gloria own and manage the estate and make low-intervention wines with native yeasts, minimal sulphur, and unfined, unfiltered bottling. The wines emphasize freshness, drinkability and minerality.
