Hans Rottensteiner

Italy

Founded in 1956 in Bolzano, Hans Rottensteiner remains a family-owned winery led by Toni and Hannes Rottensteiner, with the five surrounding farmsteads overseen largely by family members. The winery works its own vineyards alongside grapes from around 50 regional growers, maintaining close ties to the local viticultural community. Its Premstallerhof vineyards are cultivated according to biodynamic principles, while the wider estate emphasizes harmony with nature. Rooted in Bolzano’s porphyry soils and traditions, the winery focuses on typical Alto Adige varieties including Schiava and Lagrein, as well as increasingly important mineral whites. The stated style is clear, elegant, fresh and approachable, expressing grape and place rather than cellar technique. Tradition is combined with innovation, using stainless steel, older oak casks and carefully handled French barriques.
