Spain

Espelt Viticultors is a family-run producer in Catalonia’s DO Empordà, with a winemaking legacy spanning eight generations. Anna Espelt, a biologist and winemaker, leads the estate and the Mas Marès project in Cap de Creus Natural Park. The family has worked organically for more than twenty years, combining regenerative soil care, biodiversity conservation and agroecological land management. Vineyards coexist with pastures, olive groves and cork oaks, while restored dry-stone terraces help preserve the Mediterranean landscape. Espelt focuses on local varieties such as Garnacha, Carignan and Monastrell, including old Carignan vines planted in 1909, and works across granite and slate soils shaped by the Tramontana and sea winds. The wines are intended to express Empordà’s diverse terroirs without artifice, with a style described as Mediterranean, complex, intense and delicate.
