Quinta da Costa do Pinhão

Portugal

Quinta da Costa do Pinhão is a family-owned Douro estate run by the seventh-generation Morais family, with Miguel Morais at the helm and Luis Seabra, formerly of Niepoort, involved in the wines. Its vineyards, mostly older vines at around 450 metres on slate soils, are farmed with organic and sustainable methods, without artificial chemicals and with no formal certification yet. The estate is moving toward certified organic farming. Winemaking is low-intervention, with natural fermentations in stone lagares, minimal sulphur, and ageing in used barrels. The family also sells grapes to Port houses while building its own Douro wine range.
