Primo Estate

Australia

Primo Estate is a family-owned boutique producer based in McLaren Vale, South Australia, founded by Joe Grilli and shaped by his Italian heritage and modern Australian approach. The estate makes wine under the Primo Estate and JOSEPH labels, alongside extra-virgin olive oil and vinegar. Its JOSEPH wines are hand-crafted in tiny quantities, with traditional open-topped concrete fermenters and French oak barrels used in the cellar. The range includes distinctive Italian-inspired varieties such as Nero d’Avola and Pinot Grigio, as well as aged and fortified wines built from historic Australian vintages. Family involvement remains central: Matteo Grilli is a winemaker, while Elena Grilli works harvest on the Pinot Grigio named for her. The estate welcomes visitors through its cellar door and wine clubs.
