Garage Wine Co.

Chile

Garage Wine Co. is a founder-run, DIY Chilean winery established in 2001 by Derek Mossman and Pilar Miranda. Based in Chile’s Central Valley and working mainly in Maule and Itata, they focus on reviving old vineyards in marginalized communities through partnerships with small farmers and long-term local labor. Their wines come from individual dry-farmed parcels of old, often pre-phylloxera vines, including Carignan, Garnacha, Monastrell, País, Cinsault and Cabernet Franc, with some Cabernet wines from Maule and Maipo. Farming emphasizes traditional horse-and-plough work and regenerative practices. In the cellar, wines are made by hand with native yeasts, manual punch-downs and basket pressing. Sustainability is pursued through practical measures such as recycled bottles, silk-screened labels and upcycled fermentation tanks rather than formal certification.
