Colombo

Italy

Colombo is a family-owned winery in western Sicily, just inland from Marsala, and has been continuously operated by the same family since 1875. Its vineyards focus on Grillo, Inzolia, and Catarratto, with east-facing vines rooted in sandy, clay-rich soils and typically harvested in late August. Colombo is best known for handcrafted Marsala made from a centuries-old recipe: a Mistella must is fortified with select wine brandy, blended in copper kettles over a log fire, and aged for at least 18 months in large Slavonian oak barrels. The winery also uses French and American barriques to finish its red wines.
