Alvear

Spain

Founded in 1729, Bodegas Alvear is the oldest winery in Andalusia and remains a private, family-owned estate in its eighth generation, in partnership with the Envínate group and Losada Serra families. Based in Montilla-Moriles, with vineyards in Montilla and the Sierra de Montilla, it is known for Pedro Ximénez from high-altitude estate sites. The wines are made with traditional methods including sun-drying on mats, fermentation in clay amphorae, and the long-established solera y criaderas system. Alvear is listed as organically certified in 2023, and winemaking is led by historic cellar master Carlos Billanueva and current winemaker Ramiro Ibáñez.
