Château du Retout

France

Château du Retout is a Kopp family estate and Cru Bourgeois Supérieur in Bordeaux’s Haut-Médoc, revived by the family in the 1950s after the Phylloxera crisis and World War I. The vineyards are managed with eco-friendly practices, including full ploughing, natural fertiliser, biocontrol and no herbicides or insecticides; the estate is HVE certified. Its winemaking focuses on respecting fruit, with separate modern stainless-steel vinification facilities, hand-harvested white grapes and mechanically harvested reds with onboard sorting. The resulting red wines are marked by dense, dark colour, intense black-fruit aromas and harmonious, velvety palates with smooth tannins.
