Villa Papiano

Italy

Villa Papiano is a family-owned estate in the Apennines between Romagna and Tuscany, run by the four Bordini siblings, with Francesco overseeing winemaking. Its vineyards, planted in the 1960s and restored in 2001, grow on marl, sandstone, blue clay, marine fossils and forest soils. The estate has farmed organically since 2000 and biodynamically since 2018, with Demeter certification achieved in 2023, alongside organic certifications from Suolo e Salute, US NOP and Canada COR. Solar and geothermal energy, cover crops, composting and hand pruning reflect a close relationship with the environment. Wines are made with native yeasts and minimal oak aging, emphasizing the character of this distinctive Romagna terroir.
