Tolpuddle Vineyard is a boutique, single-site estate in Tasmania's Coal River Valley, established in 1988 and acquired in 2011 by cousins Michael Hill Smith MW and Martin Shaw, founders of Shaw + Smith. The vineyard spans about 30 hectares, with a core 20-hectare northeast-facing block of mature Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines. Production is small-scale, focusing exclusively on premium Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The vineyard's name references the Tolpuddle Martyrs, English convicts transported to Tasmania; their leader, George Loveless, once worked on land that now includes the vineyard. The tasting room is intimate and operates by appointment, with wines sold on allocation.
