Canon La Chapelle

France

Canon La Chapelle is a small, family-operated estate in Fronsac, Bordeaux, owned by the Von Neipperg family since 1971. Its 10 hectares lie on well-exposed high plateaus and clay-limestone slopes. Vineyard work emphasizes environmental stewardship, traditional soil management, natural grassing, manual maintenance, limited yields, and hand harvesting, although no organic or biodynamic certification is mentioned. Gonzague Maurice oversees viticulture and winemaking as part of the family’s shared team for four Bordeaux estates. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled concrete vats, followed by maturation mainly in concrete, with a smaller portion aged in barrels. The resulting approach combines careful, hands-on vineyard work with restrained, traditional cellar practices.
