Kante is a family-owned estate in Duino Aurisina in Friuli-Venezia Giulia’s Carso region, founded in 1980 and owned and run by Edi Kante, who is also the sole winemaker. Working on the area’s stark limestone and calcareous soils under the influence of the Bora wind and sea breeze, the estate is known for authentic, mineral and saline wines, with particular attention to local varieties such as Vitovska, Malvasia and Terrano. Farming is sustainable and low-intervention, with hand-harvested fruit, biodiversity focus, no new oak, and no fining or filtration. The wines are aged in old barrels and in a deep multi-level cellar carved into the rock, a distinctive part of Kante’s stewardship-led approach.
