Bodegas Muga is a third-generation family winery founded in 1932 in Haro, Rioja. It owns roughly 400–425 hectares of vineyards and produces just over 2 million bottles annually. The estate is distinguished by its traditional, oak-centric philosophy: it is the only winery in Spain with its own cooperage, crafting bespoke French and American oak barrels on-site, and ferments exclusively in small wooden vats using indigenous yeasts. Sustainability is a core commitment, evidenced by its certification under the Sustainable Wineries for Climate Protection standard, a 150 kW photovoltaic installation, and biodiversity projects like nest boxes, bat shelters, and a reforested 'Bosque Muga.' Managed by the Muga family, the winery balances time-honored techniques—such as gravity racking and egg-white clarification—with precise viticulture to express the region's distinct terroirs.
