La Villana is a small regenerative winery in Gradoli, Lazio, founded by Swiss-American winemaker Joy Kull and run with her husband Simone, a shepherd. Starting from a few old vineyards and a tiny garage, the estate now farms old and new parcels, including rescued plots from retired local growers, with varieties such as Greghetto, Procanico, Aleatico, Ciliegiolo, Montepulciano, Malvasia and Moscato. Since 2021, La Villana has followed a no-till, biodynamic-inspired regenerative approach, using broadcast seeding, hand-cut grass, chipped prunings and composted sheep manure, while avoiding pesticides, herbicides and synthetic fertilizers. In the cellar, the philosophy is minimal intervention: 100% grapes, natural fermentations, and no filtration, fining, additives or added sulfur, with a focus on terroir-driven wines.
