Château-Grillet

France

Château Grillet is a historic monopole estate in the northern Rhône Valley, entirely dedicated to Viognier on steep granite terraces. A single-block vineyard, long renowned and classified as its own AOC since 1936, it has been owned by the Pinault family’s Artémis Domaines since 2011. The vineyard is worked by hand, and the estate follows organic and biodynamic farming, with organic certification noted from 2016/2017, alongside agroforestry, dry-stone wall restoration, and broader ecosystem stewardship. Vinification is parcel-by-parcel in small temperature-controlled vats, with élevage lasting 18 months in oak. The wine is known for its restrained, precise expression of Viognier, marked by granitic minerality, tension, freshness, and strong ageing potential.
