Weingut Wittmann

Germany

Weingut Wittmann is a long-established family estate in Westhofen, Rheinhessen, now led by Philipp Wittmann with Eva Clüsserath and his parents Günter and Elisabeth. A 15th-generation grower and VDP member, the domaine is known for site-specific wines from classified vineyards in Westhofen, Gundersheim and Nierstein, with a strong focus on single-vineyard Rieslings. The family converted to organic farming in 1990 and to biodynamics in 2004, making Wittmann one of Germany’s early organic pioneers. Farming and cellar work emphasize detailed manual vineyard work, selective hand harvests, gravity flow, native-yeast fermentations and patient élevage in traditional casks. The wines are described as terroir-driven, balanced, precise and mineral, reflecting the estate’s clay marl, limestone and red slate soils.
