Murgo is a family-run estate of the Scammacca del Murgo family, based on the eastern slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily, with roots dating back to 1860. Rebuilt as a modern winery by Baron Emanuele Scammacca del Murgo and run with his family, it focuses on Etna DOC reds and whites and traditional-method sparkling wines, including pioneering work with Nerello Mascalese. The vineyards are planted largely to indigenous grapes such as Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and Carricante. Farming is carried out with low-impact, sustainability-minded practices, with organic conversion underway on Etna and a strong emphasis on respect for the landscape. Hand harvesting, careful vinification, and selected native yeasts shape wines intended to express Etna’s volcanic soils, altitude, freshness and mineral character.
