Weingut Steinschaden is a small, family-owned estate in Engabrunn in Austria’s southern Kamptal, run by the Steinschaden family across six generations. The winery farms more than 200 parcels using Austria’s high-culture vine-training system, with reduced yields, estate-grown grapes and hand harvesting. Working with respect for nature, the estate is converting to organic farming and holds Sustainable Austria certification. Karl Steinschaden leads the winemaking, combining traditional methods with careful, gentle cellar work, including fermentation in small tanks and aging in neutral Slovenian oak. The wines are intended to express varietal character and terroir, with the region’s contrasting cool nights and warm days contributing aromatic, lively styles. A terraced vineyard dating to 1560 and a historic tree press from 1564 reflect the estate’s long viticultural heritage.
