Chéreau-Carré is a family-owned winery founded in 1960 in Saint-Fiacre-sur-Maine, at the heart of Muscadet Sèvre et Maine. Now worked by three generations, the estate farms several properties on schist, mica-schist, orthogneiss and related terroirs, including old Melon de Bourgogne vines. The family works parcel by parcel, using Agriculture Raisonnée, hand-harvesting much of the fruit and relying on gravity-fed cellar work where possible. Their Muscadets are shaped by lees ageing—used for most of the wines—along with extended bottle ageing and careful selection of old-vine parcels for more concentrated, age-worthy cuvées. The estate’s history includes Château de Chasseloir, held by the family since 1953, and an unusual underground cellar used for fermentation. Bernard and Louise Chéreau represent the current generations continuing this long family commitment to terroir-driven Muscadet.
