Château Carbonnieux

France

Château Carbonnieux is a historic Cru Classé estate in Pessac-Léognan, among Bordeaux’s oldest properties, with roots in Benedictine ownership and a recorded visit from Thomas Jefferson in 1787. Family-owned since 1956, it remains in the hands of the Perrin family, now led by Marc Perrin’s descendants. The estate grows both red and dry white wines and works parcel by parcel, with manual harvesting, separate vinification, and traditional Bordeaux ageing in oak; final blends are selected from the best lots. Sustainability is a stated focus, with HVE 3 certification, ISO 14001 environmental management, part of the vineyard under organic farming and the rest under sustainable agriculture. Its heritage is also reflected in the limited Hommage à Dom Galéas 1741 white wine and the historic “Jefferson’s pecan tree” in the château park.
