Guado al Melo

Italy

Guado al Melo is a family-run estate in Castagneto Carducci’s Bolgheri DOC, founded in 1998 by Annalisa and Michele Scienza. The Scienza family oversees the vineyards, cellar and winemaking, pursuing elegant, balanced, terroir-driven wines with an artisanal approach. Viticulture is certified under SQNPI and based on integrated, regenerative practices: spontaneous cover crops, biological control, minimal inputs, soil care and high biodiversity. Vineyards occupy a cool, east-west valley on the first hills, surrounded by Mediterranean scrub and olive groves, with deep, well-drained alluvial soils. The underground, bio-architectural winery includes a wine museum and an extensive viticultural library assembled by Attilio Scienza. Alongside Bolgheri’s principal varieties, the estate preserves historic local grapes and experiments with Mediterranean and Caucasian material, including field blends and small-parcel vinifications.
