Gruaud Larose is a historic Saint-Julien estate in Bordeaux, founded in the 18th century and classified as a Second Growth in 1855. Owned by Jean Merlaut and the Merlaut family since 1997, the château has reinforced Cabernet Sauvignon’s place in the blend while advancing sustainable farming. The vineyard sits on ancient Garonne gravel, and the estate now works with agroecological, organic and biodynamic methods, with organic certification from 2022 and HVE status. Biodiversity measures include hedgerows, trees, a micro-forest, beehives and winter grazing by sheep. Management is led by Nicolas Sinoquet, with David Launay involved in winemaking.
