Gancia

Italy

Founded in Canelli, Piedmont, in 1850 by Carlo and Edoardo Gancia, Gancia pioneered Italian sparkling wine after Carlo studied Champagne techniques in Reims. In 1865, the winery created Italy’s first sparkling wine and helped establish the rules of the Metodo Classico. Its historic underground cellars, carved into Canelli’s limestone tuff, provide naturally stable conditions for production and ageing. Gancia maintains direct relationships with vineyards and growers, following the wines from the land through the cellar while combining respect for tradition with research, innovation, and close attention to quality. Its Metodo Classico wines are made from grapes including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Moscato. After more than a decade under control linked to Russian Standard, the company returned to full Italian ownership in 2025.
