Château Smith Haut Lafitte

France

Château Smith Haut Lafitte is a family-owned estate in Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux, run by Daniel and Florence Cathiard since 1990. Its vines are planted in a single block on a Günz gravel plateau, and the property produces both Grand Vin and second wines including Les Hauts de Smith. Certified organic since 2019, the estate also follows biodynamic practices, with on-site compost, hedgerow and tree planting, beehives, horse-drawn work on fragile slopes, herb cultivation and a vineyard nursery to support genetic diversity. Winemaker Fabien Teitgen leads production with consultancy from Michel Rolland, and the estate also highlights innovation through its positive-energy Chai Furtif, which recycles CO2 into sodium bicarbonate.
