Producer

Carlos Serres

Spain

Founded in Haro, Rioja Alta, in 1896, Carlos Serres is a historic producer whose Bordeaux influence helped shape its early international outlook. The winery owns Finca El Estanque, a 60-hectare estate of clay-calcareous and gravelly soils planted mainly to Tempranillo alongside Graciano, Mazuelo, Maturana Tinta and Viura, and also works with a select group of jointly managed local growers. Vineyard cultivation is closely monitored, with organic viticulture used for some Tempranillo, supported by minimal tillage, composting and reduced chemical, water and energy use. Wines combine traditional Rioja aging in French and American oak with gentle extraction and controlled fermentation; concrete tanks are also used to preserve fruit. The estate’s limited 1896 Finca El Estanque range reflects a focus on site, heritage and restrained production, while semi-sweet and sparkling wines continue distinctive historical styles.
