Producer

Sugrue South Downs

United Kingdom

Sugrue South Downs is a boutique, family-owned English producer run by founders Dermot and Ana Sugrue, with Dermot as head winemaker. Based in Sussex, the estate farms five vineyards across Sussex and Essex, including chalk sites in the South Downs and vineyards in the Crouch Valley. With more than two decades of winemaking, the producer focuses on small-quantity sparkling wines inspired by grower Champagne but distinctly English in character. Wines are fermented in old oak barrels and typically aged for five to ten years before release, alongside limited-release still wines. The wines are known for freshness and ageing potential and have developed a following among critics, collectors, and prestigious restaurants.
