Sanford Winery is a historic, mission-inspired producer in California’s Sta. Rita Hills, centered on the Sanford & Benedict and La Rinconada vineyards. Planted in 1971, Sanford & Benedict was the first vineyard in what became the Sta. Rita Hills and contains Santa Barbara County’s oldest Pinot Noir vines. The estate is certified sustainable, with marine shale and alluvial soils, and emphasizes education and sustainable winemaking. Winemaker Trey Fletcher takes a minimal-intervention approach, seeking clear, true expressions of each vineyard and block. Known for Burgundy-style Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Sanford offers tastings that explore the distinct character of its neighboring vineyards.
