Founded in 1926, Messias is a fourth-generation family-owned Portuguese producer based in the Douro, with family members still involved in its leadership. It makes wines from the Douro, Dão, Bairrada, Vinho Verde and Port regions, including sparkling wines produced by the traditional method and brandies. The estate emphasizes sustainable viticulture, respect for terroir and traditional foot-treading. Its history includes the acquisition of Quinta do Cachão and Quinta do Rei in the Douro during the 1950s, where wines are made, stored and aged. CEO José Vigário, a grandson of founder Messias Baptista, leads the company, alongside winemakers Ana Urbano and João Soares.
