Cantine Russo is a historic, family-run estate in Solicchiata on Mount Etna’s north-eastern slope, where the Russo family has cultivated vineyards since the late 1800s and bottled its own wines since 1955. Now managed by the fourth generation, the estate works vineyards at roughly 650–1,000 metres on varied volcanic soils, including the distinctive clay-influenced terrain of Crasà. Grapes are hand harvested with respect for biodiversity, and the family focuses on native Etna varieties and the expression of each site. Etna DOC certification was recognized in 1968. Winemaker Francesco Russo brings more than 30 years’ experience with Etna wines and has explored different maceration and fermentation techniques, as well as Metodo Classico sparkling wines. Production remains small and artisanal.
