Italy

Florio is a historic Marsala house in Marsala, on Sicily’s western coast, founded in 1833 by Vincenzo Florio and now part of Duca di Salaparuta, controlled by the Reina family. The winery is closely tied to the history of Marsala and became a major name in the category, later acquiring the English houses Woodhouse and Ingham-Whitaker. Its sea-facing tufa cellars, with thousands of oak casks, are central to its style: Florio emphasizes the influence of sea air, humidity, oxygen, and long aging on the wines’ character. The estate describes its approach as “enology of listening,” focused on the relationship between terroir, élevage, and time.
