Marchesi di Barolo

Italy

Marchesi di Barolo is a historic, family-owned estate in Piedmont's Barolo region, considered the birthplace of the modern Barolo wine in the early 19th century. Now in its fifth and sixth generation, the Abbona family has owned and operated the estate since 1929, continuing the legacy started by the Falletti family. The winery manages approximately 110 hectares of vineyards (with a broader portfolio of about 200 hectares) across Langhe, Roero, and Monferrato. It practices sustainable viticulture and vinifies each vineyard plot separately to preserve distinct characteristics. Winemaking is led by Ernesto and Anna Abbona, with production including small-batch Barolo and about 35,000 bottles of Roero Arneis annually. The estate operates from the historic cellars where Barolo was first created, featuring centuries-old aging barrels.
