Italy

Fossacolle is a small, family-run estate in Tavernelle, south of Montalcino, owned by Sergio Marchetti, whose farming lineage dates to the 18th century. The family began planting Sangiovese in 1984, and three generations remain involved: Sergio oversees the vineyards, while his son-in-law Adriano Bambagioni and grandson Stefano manage winemaking and commercial activities. The vineyards lie among woods and vineyards on medium-textured, clay-influenced soils with tuff layers, at around 300 metres. Vines average 20 years old and are trained using cordon speronato. Fossacolle follows traditional winemaking processes, with the estate’s small scale allowing careful, artisanal attention to the vines. Its wines are described as concentrated and long-lived while retaining freshness and fermentation aromas.
