Castello Banfi is a large, family-owned estate in Montalcino, Tuscany, founded in 1978 by the Italo-American Mariani brothers. With about 2,830 hectares (over 800 ha under vine), it is the largest Brunello di Montalcino producer. Now led by third-generation CEO Cristina Mariani-May, the estate combines historic architecture with modern facilities, including the Horizon winemaking area. Banfi is a pioneer in sustainability, holding Equalitas certifications for both organization and products, and was Europe’s first certified sustainable winery (2016). It practices extensive clonal selection and zoning studies, operates a Michelin-starred restaurant, and offers hospitality, a museum, and a balsamic vinegar production facility. The portfolio ranges from everyday IGT wines to premium Brunello and Super-Tuscans, with an annual production of about 10 million bottles.
