Domäne Wachau is a next-generation cooperative in Austria's Wachau region, owned by about 250 growers who collectively manage roughly 450 hectares of vineyards, including over 160 hectares certified organic. Each vigneron typically cultivates less than two hectares of steep, terraced plots by hand, focusing on sustainable and increasingly organic practices. Under the leadership of Director Roman Horvath, MW, and winemaker Heinz Frischengruber, the estate produces around three million bottles annually, emphasizing single-vineyard wines from premier sites like Achleiten and Kellerberg. The winery is recognized for its strict quality model, micro-vinification of numerous small parcels, and a holistic sustainability approach that includes regenerative viticulture, hand harvesting, dry-stone wall maintenance, and renewable energy use.
