Château Batailley

France

Château Batailley is a Fifth Growth in Pauillac, classified in 1855 and owned by the Castéja family since 1924, with Philippe Castéja overseeing the estate. Its vineyards lie on deep ancient Günz gravel with silica and sandy soils, planted mainly to Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The château’s name is linked to a battle in 1453, and the estate combines long history with ongoing investment, including renewed cellar facilities for parcel-by-parcel vinification. Winemaking is led by Arnaud Durand, with stainless-steel fermentation and maturation in French oak. The wines are consistently described as classic Pauillac: structured, precise, powerful and elegant, with strong ageing potential. The estate is also noted as HVE3 certified.
