Castello Romitorio

Italy

Castello Romitorio is a family-run Montalcino estate founded in 1984 by artist Sandro Chia and now led by his son Filippo Chia, who serves as winemaker alongside Franco Martini. Set on the northwest slope and exposed ridges of Montalcino, the winery combines a restored historic castle with a strong focus on Sangiovese, especially Brunello and Brunello Riserva, while also exploring Maremma fruit through wines such as Romitorio and Syrah. The estate works in harmony with nature, follows low-impact organic farming practices under a “Green code,” and holds vegan-friendly certification. Its style is defined by meticulous parcel work, cool-site balance, elegance, precision, and a blend of tradition, experimentation, and artistic identity.
